Israel’s relations with its Islamic and Arab neighbours has declined massively over the last four years. This has been evidenced by vitriolic statements made by Islamic leaders such as Egypt’s Mohamed Morsi, as well as incursions and rocket fire into Israeli lands. The so-called Arab Spring has resulted in a de facto isolationist stance by Israel. With no one really wanting to engage with her, and many throwing venomous words her way (Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad being a shining example), it’s not been easy for the only democracy in the Middle East. As Israel necessarily ramps up its defence forces, the newly socialized America may not quite be the staunch ally it previously was, leaving Israel potentially alone.
